My say – Stephen Edwards

With the 2018 District Council election due on 3rd May, here's the eighth in our series about the Conservative candidates by the candidates.

Stephen Edwards, who lives in Ickleton, has been self employed all his working life and has just retired.  "All sports play a big part of my interests, but cricket is my favourite game," he says.

He is standing for the Duxford ward as District Councillor Mick Marin is retiring after seven years of distinguished service.

As a result of the boundary changes which take effect from May, the new Duxford ward will be enlarged from two villages (Duxford and Ickleton) to five – Babraham, Duxford, Hinxton, Ickleton and Pampisford.

Here's why Stephen is standing.

"Doing the best you can for your community is what I have always tried to do.  My 18 years' experience as a District Councillor in Suffolk, where I used to live, has taught me if you can't sort things out yourself then find somebody in another organisation who can.

I believe talking to people is very important, so I'm always happy to be contacted by phone, face to face in the street or by e-mail.  My contact details are below.

My other strong belief is we need to preserve our traditional way of life as far as possible and not allow our villages to expand too quickly.

The volume of traffic and speeding through our villages is a real blight on the whole community.  If elected, trying to effect a solution to these would be two of my main priorities.

I will always do my best if given the opportunity at the election in May."
