About us

South Cambridgeshire Conservative Association

The Association (SCCA for short) is one of hundreds of similar Conservative Associations throughout the UK – all are part of the Conservative Party and while relatively autonomous, we, like our counterparts, are ultimately governed by Conservative Central Office.

Our role is to be the eyes and ears of Conservative activity in the South Cambridgeshire parliamentary constituency.  We are responsible for selecting our MP and local County and District councillors and helping them to win seats.

The constituency has always returned a Conservative MP – from 1983 to 1997 (when we were South West Cambridgeshire) the late Sir Anthony Grant and from 1997 to 2017 by, first, The Rt Hon Andrew (now Lord) Lansley CBE and, since 2015, Heidi Allen – her constituency office is in our building in Hardwick.

Three of the Eastern Region MEPs are also Conservative – David Campbell Bannerman, Geoffrey Van Orden and John Flack; see our Links page for their contact details.  Vicky Ford was our third Conservative MEP until she stood down on 12 June 2017 (having been elected MP for Chelmsford on 8th June 2017).

In addition, there are 19 Conservative councillors in South Cambridgeshire – nine County Councillors and 10 District Councillors.

We join forces with the other Conservative Associations in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough when selecting candidates for whole county roles – currently the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire.

Indeed, it is officers from our Association who played a major part behind the scenes organising the publicity and action days for James Palmer in his successful quest to become the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in 2017.  We did the same in 2016 for Jason Ablewhite when he successfully stood for the PCC role and, in 2017, created and made happen the campaign leaflets for the County Council election which saw the Conservatives regain control of the County after four years of no overall control.

Our Hardwick office was also the meeting point for campaign discussions for all these elections.

The Association relies on its members to help finance thorough their subscriptions and donations the production of literature, posters, this website and social media as the key elements of our local campaigns and our office in Hardwick.  Members' money is not spent on supporting our MP or any other elected person other than on specific campaign material.
